Improved adhesion on rough, porous and absorbent surfaces. Also suitable for bitumen tapes

Improves adhesive strength

  • Excellent adhesion to a wide range of surfaces

  • Rough and porous surfaces are strengthened

Simple use

Apply butyl primer to the surface being treated with a brush and let the surface flash off until the primer stiffens and exhibits a strong surface adhesiveness.

Notice

Thin thickened primer with light petrol to apply it again.

Application area

Butyl primer is always required for optimal adhesion on porous and absorbent surfaces such as concrete, aerated concrete, plaster, cement stone, gypsum, wood, fibreboard, chipboard or gypsum board, masonry, sand-lime brick, etc. To improve adhesive strength on oxidised metals such as iron, lead, etc., these surfaces must also always be treated with a primer.

Can also be used for pre-treatment of adhesive surfaces in roof and concrete construction and for sealing of construction joints with butyl tapes.

Butyl primer is required for all self-adhesive Würth butyl and bitumen tapes.

Instructions

The surface to be primed must be dry, load-bearing and free from dust and release agents.

Apply the primer evenly and undiluted once with a brush (apply more thickly to porous substrate materials).

On surfaces that may be slightly damp and very absorbent, longer drying times must be allowed for until the adhesive film becomes surface dry. Surface contamination of the exposed adhesive film must be avoided. Apply the butyl primer only as wide as matches the required adhesive width of the butyl tape being applied. The flash-off time (physical drying) of the applied adhesive layer depends on the thickness of the layer and the ambient temperature and is approx. 10 minutes at 20°C. Only then should the respective butyl tape be attached. When used indoors, adequate ventilation must be ensured.

Permeation is the process by which a chemical moves through the material of a protective glove on a molecular level. The time from the initial contact between the chemical and the glove to the permeation of the material is the breakthrough time.
